About Manny's
Founders
In 1953 Manoli “Manny” Stavrinakis landed in the
U.S. as a young merchant seaman with no family or
friends in the United States. Being by himself it
was a long lonely feeling from his home island of
“Chios” in Greece. But as many young Greek
immigrants at this time, he left family and friends
to make a better life for himself.
His first job in the U.S. was washing dishes in a
diner in Manhattan. He would work a 12 hour shift 7
days a week for $35 per week. This included boarding
in a studio apartment with whom he shared with the
other dishwasher for the other 12 hours per day.
After several restaurant jobs Manny wound up
catching on with a bridge painting company. Which
eventually brought him to Tarpon Springs, Fl. Where
he would eventually meet his wife “Merofia”. They
eventually made the move to Charleston, S.C. and
began opening restaurants.
As with Greek families the children start to work at
a very young age. This is where the hard work and
pride factors here at Manny’s is derived. We take
great pride in the qualify of our food, the
cleanliness of our restaurants and the service you
deserve.
In our food, we purchase only the top ingredients.
We conduct great due diligence to insure the best
quality. All of our cuisine is made to order. We do
not pre-cook and we do not allow microwaves in any
of our kitchens.
Our restaurants are always being upgraded. We feel
customers should be dinning in a place that the feel
good about.
When it comes to service we here at Manny’s feel
that the service you get in a meal is just as
important as the meal itself. We take time to make
sure our staff is pleasant, knowledgeable and
efficient when serving you.
All these factors blend to bring you a comfortable
atmosphere here at Manny’s. Whether you’re having
lunch with associates, bringing your family for
dinner or just in to have a beer and watch a
ballgame.
Manny Stavrinakis was known to repeatedly remind his
kids the “Greece is you roots always love it. But
America is the greatest country in the world. All
you have to do is work hard, take pride and treat
everyone equally and you will succeed in America.”
Enjoy your Manny’s experience !
Sincerely,
Michael E. Stavrinakis
